Free Tunisia announces its new partnership with the Maghreb Center!
The Maghreb Center is an independent, Washington DC based think tank (non-profit organization) formed to increase understanding of the Maghreb in the United States. In accomplishing its educational mission, the Maghreb Center organizes Maghreb-related conferences, seminars, lectures, round-tables and offers a series of publicly available publications, including the Maghreb Center Journal. The Maghreb Center sponsors numerous programs open to the public featuring U.S. and regional experts, development practitioners, foreign policy specialists, and representatives of Maghrebi governments, and civil society.
To further the the cause of Tunisian democracy, Free Tunisia has entered in a partnership with the center. The partnership consists of working together through projects that include but are not limited to:
- Investigative journalism training for journalists in Tunisia to support independent media.
- Supporting citizen journalism and giving them a structure to work with to maximize effectiveness through social media and new technologies.
Together with the Maghreb Center, Free Tunisia will support and aid in organizing Maghreb Center activities to Tunisia ranging from speaker activities, debates and forums to roundtable discussions and workshops to discuss short and long term development on the regional and national level. Security strategies in response to conditions on the ground will also be further discussed. The Free Tunisia team looks forward to an effective collaboration that will benefit the young Tunisian democracy.
